Bristol City managed to shock Sheffield United in their opening game of the 2025/26 Championship season as they beat their hosts 4-1.
It is the first time in nine games that Bristol City have been able to secure a victory over the Blades, and it was sweet revenge for their 6-0 play-off semi-final defeat last season.
Scott Twine stole the show with a magnificent free-kick to open the scoring before he set up Bristol City’s second before rounding off the Robins’ scoring early in the second half.
Ruben Selles was not pleased with the result or his squad’s performance, as he told his players off on the pitch after the final whistle in a huddle, as they had been outfought and outclassed by a smarter Bristol City side.
Gerhard Struber, the mastermind behind the game plan, detailed how he managed to secure the result post-match.

Struber puts the victory down to Bristol City’s togetherness
Speaking with Sky Sports post-match, Struber detailed exactly how his side were able to travel away to Bramall Lane and secure a 4-1 victory over Sheffield United.
He stated that there was a mix of the tactics he had promised to use ahead of the new season and the mentality of his players.
Struber said: “Our style of play, our football, works today in a very good direction. I think we were so sharp in transitions today and so clean, and of course our finishing today was on a really good level.
“The energy together, how we did everything together, the willingness to create the atmosphere – this helps in the end next to the principles to win in this direction.”
Jason Knight on Bristol City’s performance
Bristol City’s captain and Republic of Ireland international Jason Knight was ecstatic about the victory the club produced.
He was proud of the performance by Scott Twine, whom he awarded the man of the match to after the game had finished, during their post-match with Sky Sports.
Knight was full of kind words for Twine but looked towards the overall performance as key to helping the midfielder get two goals and an assist.
He said: “It was super. I think the closeness was really good today and very clinical when we got our chances and defended the box really well.
“So, no, not a super start, exactly how we wanted it to go, and we just have to keep it going.”
