Sheffield United face an uphill battle to gain automatic promotion as it is, but they’ll have to achieve the impossible to get the better of Burnley this evening.
With three games to go, the Blades are sitting in third place, five points behind both Burnley and Leeds United in the automatic spots.
The positive for Chris Wilder, though, is that his team face Burnley this evening at Turf Moor, and know that winning there will reignite their hopes of usurping the Clarets and grabbing a top-two spot.
Everyone is predicting Burnley vs Sheffield United to be a tight game, but the top and bottom of it is, United have to win or they will have to settle for the play-offs.

Sheffield United need to end Burnley’s unbeaten home run
The Blades bounced back from their awful run of form with a win against Cardiff City on Good Friday, but a trip to Lancashire to face a relentless Burnley side is a very different proposition indeed.
In fact, United will have to do something that no other team in the Championship has managed to do this season, and that is come away from Turf Moor with all three points.
Across 21 home matches this season (prior to this evening’s clash), Burnley have won 12 and drawn nine, and have not lost at home once.
| Pos | Team | Pld | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
| 1 | Leeds Utd | 21 | 16 | 4 | 1 | 51 | 12 | +39 | 52 |
| 2 | Sheffield Utd | 22 | 15 | 3 | 4 | 32 | 16 | +16 | 48 |
| 3 | Burnley | 21 | 12 | 9 | 0 | 30 | 6 | +24 | 45 |
| 4 | Bristol City | 22 | 13 | 6 | 3 | 34 | 18 | +16 | 45 |
| 5 | Sunderland | 21 | 12 | 7 | 2 | 32 | 16 | +16 | 43 |
| 6 | Coventry City | 22 | 13 | 3 | 6 | 38 | 24 | +14 | 42 |
Interestingly, that record only puts the Clarets third in the home table for the Championship, with those draws costing them dearly. Tonight’s opponents, Sheffield United have actually got a better overall record in terms of points accrued, with 15 victories at home balancing out four defeats to give them 48 points at Bramall Lane.
Still, Burnley have been an incredibly tough nut to crack this season. Parker’s men have broken records all year, from an unthinkable amount of clean sheets to being unbeaten since November.
It would take something truly special to end Burnley’s run now, but if any team can do it, Wilder’s dogged Sheffield United side could be the ones.

Burnley can go on to win the Championship title
In truth, it’s very difficult to see Burnley losing another game this season. In fact, there’s every chance they won’t drop another point.
When it comes to the Championship title race, Burnley can march on and lift the top prize. The reason being, Leeds United, though they may be back on track now, do still have that underlying frailty where they could fall to a disappointing draw at any moment.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 43 | 26 | 13 | 4 | 83 | 29 | 54 | 91 | |
| 2 | 43 | 25 | 16 | 2 | 59 | 14 | 45 | 91 | |
| 3 | 43 | 27 | 7 | 9 | 59 | 33 | 26 | 86 | |
| 4 | 43 | 21 | 13 | 9 | 58 | 40 | 18 | 76 |
Daniel Farke’s men have dropped points against QPR, Swansea, and Luton in recent weeks, and while they look back to their best now, they are certainly not as infallible as Burnley.
Indeed, if Burnley can get past the Blades tonight, they would have passed their toughest task, and it should all be plain sailing from there on.
