Sheffield Wednesday fans adore Danny Rohl, but the supporters are already preparing for life without their manager as reports over his future intensify.
Since he took over in October 2023, Danny Rohl has guided the Owls to Championship safety against all odds, and has taken them close to a play-off spot this season.
As things stand, Wednesday are in 13th place in the Championship table with 45 points from 35 games, but they are seven points away from sixth-placed West Brom and the play-off dream appears to be over.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 11 | 35 | 12 | 12 | 11 | 56 | 48 | 8 | 48 | |
| 12 | 35 | 11 | 12 | 12 | 34 | 36 | -2 | 45 | |
| 13 | 35 | 12 | 9 | 14 | 47 | 56 | -9 | 45 | |
| 14 | 35 | 11 | 11 | 13 | 41 | 45 | -4 | 44 | |
| 15 | 35 | 9 | 16 | 10 | 36 | 41 | -5 | 43 |
In fairness, Sheffield Wednesday were never truly expected to push for promotion this season, with a midtable finish nothing to be disappointed about.
But, fans in S6 were rocked by news that Rohl will be targeted by Southampton in the summer, leaving the Owls looking for a new manager.

Sheffield Wednesday fans decide on next manager if Danny Rohl leaves
Social media has been ablaze with Wednesday fans contemplating what a future without Rohl looks like, and The Wednesday ’til I Die podcast prompted supporters to name who they would like to see come in to replace the German coach.
While a number of names were mooted, there was one clear winner who would make fans happy: Chris Powell. The 55-year-old is currently Rohl’s assistant coach, and supporters like the idea of him continuing the work started by his colleague.
One fan said: “Chris Powell, he knows what Rohl has introduced and can use his own experiences, unless he goes with Rohl.”
Another saw it as a more temporary measure, adding, “Chris Powell as caretaker manager,” while someone even suggested a combination of “Barry Bannan with Chris Powell” could work.
Others saw a slightly different route, but one with the same concept behind it, with fellow assistant Henrik Pedersen also mooted. One supporter suggested: “Try and persuade Pederson to stay on with Powell as his assistant, would be ideal, but doubt would happen.”
Another fan wrote: “Henrik Pederson, we need to continue the journey. There’s no point wasting a season and a half developing an identity to start all over again.”
Other names suggested as the next Sheffield Wednesday manager were Steve Cooper, previously at Nottingham Forest and Leicester, Rob Edwards, Ryan Lowe, and former Derby County man, Paul Warne.

Would Chris Powell actually be the right man for the job?
Getting someone like Chris Powell or Henrik Pedersen in, someone who understands the foundations that have been laid and the identity the club wants to pursue, would be the ideal choice for Wednesday at this stage.
They’ve made big improvements over the last 18 months, and if they do need a new head coach in the summer, it would make sense to follow that blueprint.
But, of course, they also need a manager who will be able to deal with the problematic ownership of Dejphon Chansiri. Whether Powell, or indeed Pedersen, would be strong enough to combat that is unlikely, and Wednesday may need a more headstrong manager in that regard.
Both Powell and Pedersen are not really experienced enough to step into what is a massive job, in reality. Sheffield Wednesday are a huge club with a very passionate and ardent fanbase. They want, and arguably deserve, to be back in the top flight, and if Rohl does go, this next appointment needs to be spot on in order to make that happen.
