Sheffield Wednesday gem is now the ‘main man’ after Wrexham draw, he was deemed not good enough by Danny Rohl

One Sheffield Wednesday star has proven his worth at Championship level, as his performance against Wrexham helped diminish any uncertainty in his ability.

Sheffield Wednesday drew 2-2 at Wrexham, with the Owls getting their first points on the board of the 2025/26 Championship season.

Henrik Pedersen’s side were seemingly out of the tie at half-time after a Kieffer Moore brace gave the Red Dragons a two-goal lead, but a spirited Sheffield Wednesday performance in the second half helped the Owls bring it back to level terms.

Barry Bannan led the comeback for Sheffield Wednesday, having proven once again to still be a top player at Championship level, whilst the Owls’ other goal was bagged by Bailey Cadamarteri.

Despite enduring a difficult spell at Lincoln City last season on loan, he has come back with high expectations, and has already delivered on them.

Bailey Cadamarteri has stepped up for Sheffield Wednesday

During Danny Rohl’s debut season in S6, the Sheffield Wednesday coach turned to youngster Bailey Cadamarteri to lead the line on some occasions, which paid off spectacularly.

The forward gained vital experience at Championship level, but was then surprisingly loaned out in the 2024/25 season to League One side Lincoln City, where he was hampered with injuries.

After Rohl believed that he was not quite up to the Championship, he had a point to prove this season after being handed the opportunity to lead the line for Sheffield Wednesday, and he has grasped it with both hands.

Dom Howson, via X, has praised the young forward, having written: “What a gutsy, spirited second half fightback that is from Sheffield Wednesday to earn their first Championship point of the season.

They needed Bailey Cadamarteri to step up and be the main man this season. So far, so good. That goal should do him a world of good.”

Henrik Pedersen needs Ike Ugbo to improve alongside Bailey Cadamarteri

After Bailey Cadamarteri made it clear that he can perform at this level, having made a difference against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground, pressure will now be on Ike Ugbo to replicate it.

Since joining Sheffield Wednesday last summer, Ugbo is yet to score a league goal during his permanent spell at the club, having bagged his first in all competitions in the EFL Cup win against Bolton Wanderers.

The Canadian has been bang out of form and luck, after squandering a handful of opportunities to get on the scoresheet against Wrexham.

His moment in a Sheffield Wednesday shirt will come, and Henrik Pedersen will be keen for him to get a run of form together.
