Leicester City are set to announce Marti Cifuentes as their new manager, and he’s been discussed by one pundit this week.

After suffering relegation to the Championship in 2024/25, Leicester City parted company with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

A host of names were linked to replace the Dutchman. Danny Rohl was a candidate, but he’s now set to make his return to Sheffield Wednesday after an extended absence.

Gary O’Neil was an option for Leicester as well, but Marti Cifuentes will now take up the role in the dugout at the King Power Stadium.

An insight into why Jon Rudkin chose Cifuentes for the Foxes has already been shared, while the manager has earned praise from one pundit this week.

Sky Sports pundit on incoming Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes

Cifuentes has been on gardening leave since April after leaving Queens Park Rangers.

Now, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has shared what he’s heard about the manager after speaking to people about his approach.

He told Football League World: “He’s sort of gone under the radar a little bit.

“I spoke to a lot of people about his approach and how he goes about his training and his methods and his style.

“To be quite honest, I think that they knew this was going to happen, that he was going to end up leaving the football club at some stage, it was just a matter of when.”

What Lee Hendrie likes about Marti Cifuentes

Cifuentes joined QPR in October 2023 before leaving the club earlier this year.

He took charge of 83 matches for the Hoops in all competitions, winning 29, drawing 23 and losing 31.

On what he likes about the soon-to-be Leicester boss, Hendrie continued: “What I do like about him, and what he proved at QPR — I know he didn’t have much choice — he wasn’t afraid of playing his younger players, giving them the opportunity.

“I think that’s where we’ve seen QPR start to lift, start to go again, because he gave a lot of belief in the youngsters.

“I think he’s got a big job on his hands, without a doubt.

“But, I don’t think he’ll be afraid to look further afield, the younger quality that may be around the squad.”
