Swansea City will face Birmingham City in the Championship this weekend, and Chris Davies will be returning to his native Wales for the fixture.

Both Birmingham and Swansea have made positive starts to the Championship campaign, and they will be looking to continue this form this weekend.

Chris Davies has done an impressive job since assuming the position of manager of Birmingham City, as he helped guide them to a record points haul in League One in his first season in management.

However, this may have never been the case had he accepted a job offer from Swansea City in the 2023/24 season, when the Welsh club had a vacancy.

Alan Sheehan’s record in charge of Swansea

Had Chris Davies been appointed manager of Swansea City, Alan Sheehan may never have been appointed to this position in February 2025.

There is always going to be a ‘what if’ about Chris Davies and Swansea and how he would have performed as manager and what he may have achieved.

However, the club have performed incredibly well since Alan Sheehan took the managerial role in February 2025.

Since Sheehan’s appointment, only one club in the Championship has collected more points than Swansea, with the Welsh club earning 32, as Middlesbrough have collected 33.

Chris Davies on the chance to be Swansea City manager

Speaking ahead of the Birmingham City and Swansea City game this weekend, Chris Davies has opened up on the chance he had to take charge of the Welsh club.

As reported by Birmingham Live, he said: “I spoke to them when I was at Spurs, and it developed; it was fairly close, I would say, but in the end I was really happy in my job at Spurs and stayed there.

“I spoke to them the summer before that as well. It’s all about timing, and it wasn’t right for me then, but obviously they have gone on and made a great start to this season as well.

“I have great respect for everyone at the club, and, like I say, it was something that I came fairly close to, and I’m very happy in the end that I joined Birmingham City.”
