Jamaica beat Bermuda in their World Cup qualifier over the weekend and one Charlton Athletic player’s contribution was given high praise by Steve McClaren.
Four Charlton players have been called up to the Reggae Boyz squad for this international break – Karoy Anderson, Tyreece Campbell, Kaheim Dixon and Amari’i’ Bell.
EFL Analysis revealed Birmingham City’s Demarai Gray was unavailable for McClaren and co.’s qualifiers against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago due to injury.
However, Jamaica’s World Cup hopes haven’t been rocked by his absence so far, and Charlton boss Nathan Jones will be happy to hear McClaren’s comments on one of the Reggae Boyz’s other stars after his start to the season divided Addicks fans’ opinions.

Tyreece Campbell a sign of Jamaica’s ‘bright future’, says Steve McClaren
Jamaica beat Bermuda 4-0 on Friday. Damion Lowe, Renaldo Cephas, Hull City’s Kasey Palmer and Shamar Nicholson all got on the scoresheet.
Charlton’s Campbell made his full international debut, with Dixon and Anderson coming off the bench.
Speaking about his side’s performance, McClaren said on 21-year-old Campbell: “That was a very young squad we have. The future is bright for Jamaican football.
“The likes of Tyreece Campbell, Kaheim [Dixon], Webster coming on, Karoy [Anderson].”
He added: “The front three in the transitions were very dangerous.”
Campbell has earned two caps for the Reggae Boyz after playing a big role in Charlton’s promotion season last term which saw him bag nine goals and one assist in all competitions.
Charlton Athletic fans split over Tyreece Campbell
Jones’ decision to start Campbell has left Charlton fans divided this season.
He got the assist for the Addicks in their 3-1 loss to Queens Park Rangers before the international break, but lost the ball as the R’s broke to score their second of the afternoon, summing up some fans’ frustrations with their academy product.
Campbell can in no way be blamed for Charlton’s loss at Loftus Road, but fans have been left asking whether he would be more impactful off the bench with his pace and if Isaac Tanto Olaofe would be a better option up top to start with Miles Leaburn.
Fans are intrigued to see if he will start again against Millwall this weekend, but Campbell’s showing for Jamaica and McClaren’s comments will reassure them the winger turned second striker can do a job for them.
