The Football Association have fined Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion following a ‘mass confrontation’ in their game.
The Championship clubs faced off before the international break, with West Brom winning 1-0 thanks to Nat Phillips’ first half goal.
Potters boss Mark Robins was furious with the referee following the match after his side were denied a penalty in their first league loss of the campaign.
But it was a clash between the players just before the hour mark that has led to the clubs being punished. Isaac Price – who starred for Northern Ireland over the break – pushed Stoke’s Tatsuki Seko before Junior Tchamadeu pushed Price. They were then both shown a yellow card, but the disciplining hasn’t ended there.

Stoke City and West Brom fined £5,000 each for Championship squabble
Stoke and West Brom have both been handed a £5,000 fine each for the ‘mass confrontation’ during their game last month.
The FA said in a statement: “Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion have been fined £5,000 for the mass confrontation that occurred during their EFL Championship fixture on Saturday, August 30. It was alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 60th minute.
“Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion admitted the charge against them and accepted the standard penalty.”
Matt Donohue, who refereed the clash, will be the man in the middle for Southampton and Portsmouth’s derby this Sunday. But while the official prepares for that fierce battle, Potters and Baggies fans have been left perplexed by their clubs’ punishment.
West Brom and Stoke City fans agree the ‘game is gone’ after fine confirmation
After clashing before the international break, sections of both clubs’ fans have come together to question the FA fine.
One Albion fan wrote on X in response to the announcement: “Absolute rubbish. Blown way out of proportion by both sides.”
“Don’t even remember what happened or if this even happened,” a Stoke supporter agreed.
“The game has officially gone,” a third said.
A large number of fans are clearly confused by the decision, judging the confrontation as nothing out of the ordinary from regular clashes between players in games. Both clubs will have to move on quickly with Stoke hosting Birmingham City and the Baggies facing Derby County this weekend.
