Stoke City’s longest-serving player has opened up on the possibility of extending his stay at the club.

It’s been a brilliant start to the season for the Potters as Mark Robins has guided them to second in the table.

Aaron McLean thinks Stoke are capable of promotion while Robins is the best manager in the last eight years for the club.

Keeping the foundations of his side is important, starting with his longest-serving player.

Ben Wilmot opens up on Stoke City future

Club captain Ben Wilmot has been with Stoke since signing from Watford in the summer of 2021.

This year he was given the armband and has been instrumental in the excellent Championship form, but is out of contract in the summer.

Asked if negotiations have begun over a new deal, Wilmot said that nothing was in the pipeline for now, but he could extend his stay if he wanted to.

He told Stoke-on-Trent Live: “Officially [up next summer] and then I have another option in the club’s favour for another year.

“I’ve not heard anything yet, but it’s not up to me, so we’ll see what what upstairs do later on.”

Every Stoke City player out of contract in 2026

Stoke will have decisions to make on a number of players out of contract at the end of this season, with Wilmot among the most high-profile.

Opening day goal scorer Lewis Baker is also on the list, as well as summer signing Aaron Cresswell.
