After another big win for Stoke City this weekend, Potters fans are recognising Mark Robins’ achievements, and it turns out the manager has the numbers to prove just how good he is.
When he took over at Stoke City midway through last season, you’d be overselling it if you said that Mark Robins did little more than steady the ship. Indeed, the Potters only just stayed in the division on the final day.
However, with Stoke making a number of shrewd transfers over the summer, they have grown far stronger. Of course, a lot of that is down to the fact that Robins has had longer to work with his squad now, too.
A 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday helped Stoke keep touch with Middlesbrough at the top of the Championship table.

Mark Robins is the best Stoke City manager in eight years
That win this weekend made it four wins out of five for the Potters this season. Already, Stoke are proving pre-season predictions wrong, and Robins is taking his fair share of the plaudits.
Rightly so, too. In fact, Robins has now registered ten league wins for Stoke out of 26 matches. That gives him a 38.46% win ratio for the club (it’s actually 40% if you include cup matches), and that’s the best win percentage of any Stoke City manager since the club was relegated to the Championship in 2018.
While Steven Schumacher (37.9%) and Michael O’Neill (36.7%) come close, Robins is excelling in many areas and will surely have Stoke fans dreaming of glory this season.
| Manager | Win ratio |
| Mark Robins | 38.5% |
| Steven Schumacher | 37.9% |
| Michael O’Neill | 36.7% |
| Gary Rowett | 30.8% |
| Alex Neil | 30.0% |
| Narcis Pelach | 16.7% |
| Nathan Jones | 14.7% |
Of course, Robins’ sample size is small, but there are enough promising signs already. Compared to last season, Stoke have hit 12 points in less than half the time it took Narcis Pelach (11 games).
Meanwhile, Robins now has a points-per-game ratio of 1.43 (also higher than all his predecessors). Thanks to some quick mathematics, we know that would give Stoke City a total of 66 points this term, which would have secured them a seventh-place finish in 2024/25.
Given the way they’ve started the season, we’re pretty sure Potters fans will be aiming even higher.

How far can Stoke City go this season?
There is a real air of positivity around Stoke City right now. They’re grinding out results, playing good football, and the new players have settled in very quickly.
There can be no underestimating Robins’ impact in instilling a sense of togetherness and belief at the club. Indeed, Aaron McLean said Mark Robins is crucial to Stoke’s hopes of going all the way this season.
Naturally, there will be some bumps in the road. But, given the huge investment from Stoke City’s owners over the years, it’s hard to deny that the club is due some success.
No one would have predicted Stoke would be strong enough to secure a play-off spot this season. However, their team spirit and mental fortitude will certainly carry them a long way.
If flair players like Sorba Thomas and Divin Mubama can complement the defensive strength of Viktor Johansson and Ben Wilmot, there’s no reason the Potters can’t land in the top six.
