Questions will surely be asked of Chris Davies as Birmingham City record unwanted statistic vs Stoke City

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies will surely get stick following the defeat to Stoke City as the Blues fail to record a single shot on target.

Birmingham City fell to defeat against Stoke City, making it two successive Championship losses and three in all competitions.

It was a bright start to the 2025/26 Championship season for Chris Davies’ side, who showed plenty of promise on the opening night of the campaign with a draw against Ipswich Town, which was then followed up by successive wins away at Blackburn Rovers and at home to Oxford United.

However, the Blues have now lost their momentum, and they found themselves second best to a solid Stoke City side, who significantly limited Birmingham’s attacking abilities.

Following the 1-0 defeat to Mark Robins’ side, it has reflected poorly on Davies that his side were unable to notch a single shot on target throughout the contest.

Birmingham City display vs Stoke City will not fill Blues fans with hope

Difficulties for Birmingham City have been bubbling under the surface recently, and the defeat to Stoke City proved that they are lacking in the final third.

Per SofaScore, Birmingham City failed to manage a single shot on target against Stoke City, with seven off target.

As Stoke City goalkeeper Viktor Johansson was left with little to do in the game, having not needed to make a single save, questions will surely be asked of several of the Blues’ players.

Jay Stansfield, for example, saw very little of the ball, only managing 16 touches, losing the ball on six occasions.

Chris Davies must fix Blues’ attacking woes

Birmingham City’s difficulties in front of goal have been very apparent in recent weeks, but the defeat at the hands of Stoke City only makes it more alarming.

In the last three Championship games, Birmingham City have only recorded two shots on target, which is remarkably low given the quality that they have in their side.

For a team who were electric in attack last season, it is a noticeable contrast to the League One days, which suggests that the Championship may have taken Birmingham City by surprise.

As things stand, Birmingham City are the joint-4th lowest goalscorers in the division, meaning that an improvement in the final third is mandatory if they are to match their lofty expectations this season.
