How Sunderland could fare against Sheffield United
Sunderland’s Championship play-off campaign reached a dramatic crescendo with Ballard’s late winner against Coventry, securing their place in the final against Sheffield United. After finishing fourth, they navigated a tense semi-final.
Now, they face Sheffield United in the final. The Blades, relegated from the Premier League the previous season, finished third and boast a strong squad aiming for an immediate return.

They demonstrated their quality by beating Bristol City 6-0 on aggregate in their semi-final.
On paper, Sheffield United might be considered slight favourites due to their recent Premier League experience and dominant semi-final performance.
However, Sunderland’s resilience, exemplified by their dramatic win against Coventry and the momentum from such a victory, cannot be discounted.
Armed with a likely ready-made Wembley team talk for his Sunderland heroes, Regis Le Bris’ tactical nous, combined with the squad’s youthful exuberance, could pose a significant challenge to Sheffield United’s more established side.
The final is likely to be a tight and potentially tense affair, with Sunderland hoping their underdog spirit and the magic of Wembley can overcome the bookmakers’ odds.
