Middlesbrough have been linked with Manchester City youngster Sverre Nypan this summer and his arrival is now all but confirmed.

Boro boss Rob Edwards kept his cards close to his chest regarding the club’s progress on a deal for the Norwegian after their 3-0 victory over Millwall on Saturday as reports emerged of a potential season-long loan being finalised.

Last week, EFL Analysis confirmed Middlesbrough have good relations with Pep Guardiola’s Premier League giants and Man City are keen for their new 18-year-old starlet to get more senior experience.

Now, Middlesbrough fans are convinced Nypan has signed, with the club and the player dropping the biggest hint yet that the midfielder is joining.

Sverre Nypan attends Middlesbrough training day

Boro hosted an open training session on Monday, inviting fans to the Riverside to watch their side prepare for their game at Norwich City this weekend.

Eagle-eyed fans soon spotted their transfer target Nypan in attendance wearing a Middlesbrough training jacket and quickly took pictures of and with him to post on social media.

Since those images emerged online, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported the Man City starlet has completed his move.

There is of course nothing official on Middlesbrough’s usual channels that has confirmed it, but the teen turning up to a public training session in Boro kit suggests that won’t be far off now.

Fans online were asking the club to hurry along with the announcement, too.

“Announce Nypan,” one wrote, with many others asking the same thing.

Sverre Nypan’s career before £12.5million move to Man City

The 18-year-old signed for Man City from Norwegian club Rosenborg this summer.

He had been with the same team since 2020 when he joined their youth side, going on to make 70 appearances for them, scoring 14 goals and bagging 11 assists.

Nypan joined City for a fee of £12.5million in July, signing a contract until the summer of 2030.

The Norway Under-21s star is expected to be on loan with Middlesbrough for the rest of the campaign.

Reports suggest Boro scouted the Norwegian prospect themselves last term before making his big money move to Manchester.

As well as being able to play in midfield, the youngster can also be placed further forward, offering Edwards a fantastic, versatile option. Ben Doak showed how effective Premier League loanees can be for Championship clubs when he joined from Liverpool last season.
