A pulsating Championship campaign is set to reach a dramatic ending as teams at the top and bottom of the table scrap for their ultimate goal.
The Championship relegation battle is exciting but nerve-shredding for the teams involved as Hull City, Preston North End, Luton Town, Derby County and Stoke City will have their fate decided on the final day.
As for those sides scrapping for the top six, Opta have predicted Coventry City and Bristol City to make the play-offs.
But Millwall, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough will hope the pendulum swings in their favour as the two places remain up for grabs heading into Saturday’s fixtures.
Finally, the automatic promotion race was decided last week as Burnley’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United booked their place in the Premier League with Leeds United. Now, one of those teams will make history on the final day as the title race reaches an exciting conclusion.

Burnley or Leeds United will become the best second-place team in Championship history
On Saturday, Burnley thumped QPR 5-0 to move onto 97 points before Leeds thrashed Bristol City 4-0 to join them on the same total.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 45 | 28 | 13 | 4 | 93 | 29 | 64 | 97 | |
| 2 | 45 | 27 | 16 | 2 | 66 | 15 | 51 | 97 | |
| 3 | 45 | 28 | 7 | 10 | 62 | 35 | 27 | 89 | |
| 4 | 45 | 21 | 13 | 11 | 58 | 43 | 15 | 76 |
Ahead of the final day showdown, Daniel Farke’s men are in the driving seat with a superior goal difference, needing to match or better the Clarets result to be crowned champions.
That seems an increasingly likely scenario as Leeds travel to already relegated Plymouth Argyle while Burnley host play-off chasing Millwall.
Remarkably, whatever happens this weekend, one of Leeds or Burnley will make history by accruing the most points in a Championship campaign without lifting the title.
Ipswich Town currently hold the record as they were beaten to the punch by Leicester City despite totalling 96 points in 2023/24.
As shown by the above graphic, Burnley finishing behind Leeds will see them make the list twice, having recorded an astonishing 93 points as a second place team in 2013/14.

What this says about the Championship
While the gap between the Championship and the Premier League continues to increase, so does the gulf in class in the second tier.
In the last two campaigns, the top three or four teams have created a big gap between the rest of the chasing pack, which suggests parachute payments and stacked squads are making the division less competitive.
Unsurprisingly, the sides coming down from the Premier League are able to outspend teams who are mostly cash strapped and unable to compete financially.
But worryingly, sides that are far too good for the second tier have all come straight back down in the last two seasons, with Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich returning to the Championship in 2025/26.
That is a problem that needs combating eventually, or the same teams will continue to yo-yo between the two divisions.
