Coventry City’s draw at Hull City put the rest of the league on red alert with spaces in the top six still up for grabs, but with only four games to go.

Tony Mowbray wants to see more from Tom Fellows

Tom Fellows has been one of West Brom’s best players this season, but the Baggies wide-man has experienced his first dip in form.

His two assists against Watford were his first of the calendar year and first since Mowbray’s return to the Hawthorns.

Fellows’ tally of 13 assists is the best in the league and unsurprisingly, the West Brom winger has attracted Premier League interest but, Mowbray wants more from the young talisman.

Championship assist table

He said: “I think it’s fair that generally all wingers are inconsistent. If anybody’s got criticism of selection, if they look back at games – as I do every game – and see inconsistency of wide players.

“It was about giving them some confidence and belief. I said to them this week ‘I don’t care if you lose the ball but I do care if you never, ever attack the full-back’.

“Tom keeps driving inside the full-back on his left foot – where are you going? The goal is that way (points), this is where we’re trying to go.”

Mowbray tips Fellows for Premier League after award-winning season

Fellows’ importance to the side was rewarded once again after he picked up Albion’s young player of the season award for the second season in a row.

The 21-year-old is also beginning to become an integral part of the Mowbray side, starting eight of the last 15 games and the West Brom boss believes the top flight awaits Fellows – with or without the Baggies.

“He can get to the Premier League – hopefully with this club of course”, he said.

“If he can eliminate full-backs and put the ball in the box. He’s a special talent.”
