Valerien Ismael issues ‘clear’ warning to Blackburn Rovers’ rivals amid transfer concerns

Blackburn Rovers started the season with defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion, with Isaac Price’s early strike the difference between the two at The Hawthorns.

Nat Phillips was sensational for the Baggies on Saturday, although Valerien Ismael would have left the West Midlands feeling frustrated that his side were not awarded a penalty after it looked as though Yuki Ohashi was fouled in the box.

Nevertheless, Rovers will be hoping for a much better performance in their Carabao Cup first round tie against League One side Bradford City on Tuesday evening at Ewood Park.

Yet, with three weeks still to go in the summer transfer window, there are plenty of players at Blackburn who could be at risk of departing. However, Ismael has cleared up how other sides must approach the Lancashire outfit.

Valerien Ismael comments on Blackburn Rovers’ transfer situation

Callum Brittain joined Middlesbrough earlier in August, while Andreas Weimann returned to Derby County, joining the Rams alongside Danny Batth after their contracts expired. However, there are fears that more first-team players could leave before the end of the window but Ismael has cleared up where Blackburn stand in negotiations.

He said (via: Lancashire Telegraph): “Nothing has shifted, the situation is very clear from our situation. We had three options. Either we extend the contract of the players; this was not possible, we tried.

“We can sell the player if we think the value is right. We are happy for the players to stay with us. The Callum Brittain deal showed exactly how to deal with the situation.

“The (buying) club thought we can get the player for cheap and that we’d be happy with any amount. No, if you are coming for our players, we understand but you have to pay the right price for us to reinvest again in the transfer market.

“This is our way and we are clear on that. It is the same for all our players who have one year on their contract.”

The final week of the transfer window could be tough for Valerien Ismael

With key players such as Lewis Travis out of contract at the end of the season, Blackburn do find themselves in a position where they either sell now or risk losing the player for free later on.

The midfielder is being targeted by Derby, but Rovers seemingly have a price that they will not shift on for now.

However, as the weeks tick down in the summer transfer window, Blackburn may be forced into a decision if a side comes in with an offer close to the valuation – especially if the player is unlikely to sign a new contract.

Yet, Ismael looks to be confident in the club’s transfer policy as Rovers look for a reaction to their opening day defeat.
