Birmingham City and Peterborough United meet in the final of this year’s Vertu Trophy.

Fresh off the back of Tuesday night’s League One clash, in which Birmingham won promotion to the Championship after beating Peterborough 2-1, both sides will be keen to get their hands on some silverware.

The defending champions, Peterborough’s route to the Vertu Trophy Final has been tough, with good wins against Walsall and Cheltenham followed by an improbable comeback against Wrexham in the semi-finals as Darren Ferguson’s side booked their place in Sunday’s showpiece.

Birmingham, meanwhile, have made their way through the competition thanks to a series of late winners. They now have the chance to add to an already excellent week and fulfil Tom Brady’s promise to Birmingham fans made following the Blues’ relegation from the Championship last season.

Elsewhere, Emil Hansson and Krystian Bielik face a race to be fit, both players missing Tuesday night’s win with slight knocks.

One positive for Chris Davies’ team is Taylor Gardner-Hickman’s return, the midfielder playing 62 minutes against Peterborough after a month on the sidelines.

Peterborough United injury news and updates

Peterborough will be at full strength for Sunday’s final, Darren Ferguson’s side without any absentees.

They will also be boosted by the return of Tayo Edun, the left-back available for selection again after missing Tuesday’s defeat through suspension.

Kwame Poku will carry Peterborough’s biggest threat. His side’s top scorer this season, the 23-year-old added to his goal tally with a fine strike against Birmingham on Tuesday.

After being given first choice over kit, Peterborough will also be wearing their home strip. Birmingham, by contrast, have opted to play in their black third kit.
