West Bromwich Albion sporting director Andrew Nestor has revealed that their transfer window success was part of an ongoing plan.
It was a busy summer at The Hawthorns as Ryan Mason tried to assemble a squad best suited to his style.
Changes at the back were enforced after Kyle Bartley’s shock retirement, as well as the departure of Darnell Furlong to Ipswich Town and Torbjorn Heggem’s £10m move to Bologna.
That hasn’t derailed them at all and Nestor has revealed the secrets behind West Brom’s plan.

Andrew Nestor pleased with West Brom’s transfer window
In a sit down interview with West Brom’s in-house media, Nestor sat down to reflect on the window.
10 points from a possible 12 is down to the business and the club’s sporting director thinks that their long-term vision has come to life.
“I’m pleased with the results. I feel like everything went as planned. This was a plan three windows in the making,” he said.
“We started last summer, looking at what we inherited, where the squad was at, what we would need to achieve to rebalance the squad, bringing in players that really fit the model that we want to see out on the pitch and also how to make sure we do that in a way that’s compliant with what our financial needs are.
“I think it’s really helpful that we were able to bring in some of the new signings early in the summer and we’ve already seen some of our new players have an impact.”
West Brom are looking to the future
One of the noticeable differences in West Brom’s transfer policy is their younger signings.
Isaac Price has been a revelation for the Baggies and overall, the squad’s average age has reduced from around the 30 mark in the 2023/24 season, whereas now it is 26.9 for the season.
It is paying off early doors and if it continues, the Premier League could be calling.
