West Brom’s decision to part company with Tony Mowbray has sparked a majority view on the decision from the supporters.

Monday afternoon saw West Brom suffer defeat to Derby County, a loss that has almost confirmed their feat as a Championship side with the play-offs now only achievable mathematically, with the Baggies sat six points behind Coventry City with two to play.

Following the defeat to the Rams, West Brom made the decision to part company with Tony Mowbray following a sour run of just two wins in their previous eight games.

The decision, with two games left of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, hasn’t quite come as a shock to the Baggies supporters, with the season as good as over now for West Brom, but some fans have still shown they are ‘gutted’ by the decision.

West Brom fans react to Tony Mowbray dismissal following Derby County defeat

West Brom’s dismissal of Tony Mowbray sparked a flurry of discussion on X by Baggies fans, who reacted to the club’s decision.

One fan suggested that he was a ‘nice bloke, but [the] correct decision overall’, a theme across many supporters, as another said: “Personally gutted about this. I really wanted it to work. Tony seems like a great person and I loved watching his team play first time around. It clearly wasn’t working though, Coventry was as poor a performance as I have seen for years. Big summer ahead.”

Supporters continued to suggest that it was ‘the right decision’, and that it was ‘in everyone’s best interests’ for the club to part ways with Mowbray.

One fan then admitted that he was ‘sad it didn’t work but ultimately [was] the right decision to make’.

Tony Mowbray will be remembered fondly despite tricky West Brom spell

Ultimately, as many of the fans’ thoughts reflect, it was the best decision for all parties for West Brom to dismiss boss Mowbray, and much of that comes down to the recent results that simply haven’t been good enough.

Anything less than the play-offs for West Brom is a disappointment, and whilst Mowbray has had his Baggies side performing well for 80% of his short spell, the business end has thrown up troubles for them, and has been crucial in Mowbray unfortunately not being able to see the season out.

Mowbray’s dismissal, however, will not take away the respect that the majority of fans will have for the 61-year-old, who was always going to have a tricky task to have his side reach the play-offs on his second spell at the club, especially with the level that several sides in-and-around the top six have also reached this season.
