When Stoke City expect to announce Tomas Rigo signing with ‘very interesting’ transfer fee mooted

Stoke’s transfer window business isn’t over yet and the Potters have reportedly taken a huge step towards signing one of their targets, Tomas Rigo.

The 23-year-old Slovakia international – who has earned five caps at senior level – currently plays for Banik Ostrava in the Czech Republic.

He has made 78 appearances since he joined in 2023, scoring seven goals and recording 10 assists. The former Slavia Prague player has won the Czech First League in that time, as well as the Czech Cup.

‘Technically gifted’ Rigo has been tipped to replace former Stoke star Wout Burger, who they lost to Hoffenheim this summer and Sol Sidibe, who went to PSV Eindhoven. Now, reports from Slovakia suggest Stoke’s move for the central midfielder has edged closer to completion.

Tomas Rigo heading to Stoke to complete deal by end of next week

Slovakian journalist Jan Jasenka reported on Tuesday that Rigo is heading to Stoke. His current club Banik Ostrava are expected to receive a ‘very interesting transfer fee’ for their star.

Jasenka also states the deal will be ‘finalised probably next week’ before the transfer window shuts, giving Potters fans a timeline of when he might arrive.

Stoke were meant to be signing Rigo for £3 million, as per reports earlier this month. He had previously been linked with Ipswich Town when the Tractor Boys were in the Premier League, so that fee would be a steal given the Slovakian star’s high stock and potential.

Rigo was tipped by EFL Analysis to have been a good fit at Millwall, but it looks as though the Potters have pipped any rivals to the midfielder’s signature.

Mark Robins and co. have already seen signs their transfer spending has paid off this summer, and they will be hoping Rigo can follow suit.

Who else have Stoke signed?

The Potters signed Sorba Thomas from Huddersfield this summer, and he’s already been heavily praised by Robins for his work out of possession and the ‘panic’ he gives defenders from his crosses into the box.

Stoke have already signed midfielders Steven Nzonzi and Jamie Donley following the midfield exodus this summer. The return of Bosun Lawal is also a boost following his injury in his first season at the club.

The Staffordshire side have made nine signings in total and Robins will be hoping Rigo is signing no. 10.

Who Stoke have signed this summer

Stoke have had a strong, winning start to the campaign, beating Derby 3-1, before edging past Walsall on penalties in the Carabao Cup and then seeing off Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 on Saturday. Their flying start has put them top of the Championship.
