Southampton’s season isn’t quite over yet, but there is light at the end of the tunnel as EFL Analysis exclusively reveal when we can expect to see Will Still announced as the new Saints manager.

It has been a terrible year for Southampton in the Premier League, with the South Coast club finishing rock bottom of the league and only just avoiding Derby County’s record-low points tally.

Behind the scenes, Southampton have been looking for a new manager since the start of April, when Ivan Juric was relieved of his duties at St. Mary’s.

Plenty of names have been linked with the Southampton post, from strong interest in Frank Lampard, to potential for Steven Gerrard to return to England with the Saints.

But now, it seems Will Still is the man for the job, and we can start to think about when the official announcement will arrive.

Will Still closes in on Southampton job

We first broke the news of Southampton’s interest in Still over a month ago, and he’s been a name constantly in the mix despite others coming and going in the race for the job.

Earlier this week, we revealed Still was not looking at the Hull City job and only had interest in joining Southampton.

Now, in an EFL Analysis exclusive, thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, we can reveal that Still will be present at Southampton’s final game of the Premier League season this Sunday against Arsenal.

We are told the deal to install Still as the new manager is now “all but done”, and we expect this appointment to be confirmed after the clash at St. Mary’s.

A promising end to a dismal season for Southampton

Whether Southampton fans necessarily wanted Still or not, getting this situation resolved ahead of pre-season was absolutely crucial.

You look at teams like Hull, Norwich, and West Brom, who are all still searching for their next manager, and realise that Southampton are actually in a relatively good place going into the summer, all things considered.

With parachute payments to come, a fairly strong second tier squad already, and some of the best loan players in the EFL, such as Shea Charles and Ronnie Edwards, still to return, Still would be well-equipped to be a success next season.

Southampton may have been poor this year, but they will firmly be expected to challenge at the top of the Championship in 2025/26, and with Still at the helm, it could be an exciting new chapter for the club.
