Paul Mullin has bedded himself into the Wigan Athletic set-up as the Latics prepare for the 2025/26 League One season as he continues to make an impact since his loan move from Wrexham on loan for the campaign.

The former Wrexham striker made his debut for his new club against Chorley in a friendly, as he looks to cement his place in the first team at Wigan.

Mullin struggled last season as Wrexham earned promotion to the Championship, and so he left the club for Greater Manchester to rediscover his form in the 2025/26 League One campaign.

Following his latest performance, this time against Liverpool U-21’s, he may be on the way to doing that with Wigan.

Mullin had a season to forget despite Wrexham achieving history in their consecutive promotions to the Championship, as it was a season in which he struggled on the pitch.

The striker slipped down the pecking order at the club when it came to striking options for Phil Parkinson, and now he finds himself out on loan at Wigan for the season.

However, the deal may be already working out for him, and after scoring his first goal since January, it could be a season to remember for the 30-year-old.

The goal he scored in Wigan’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool U-21’s was his first since scoring in a 3-2 defeat for Wrexham against Stevenage on January 28.

Wigan and Mullin will hope this is a sign of things to come as he converted a cross from the left-hand side.

Paul Mullin on the season ahead with Wigan

After signing for the club in June, Mullin spoke about his feelings ahead of the new season with Wigan as he looks forward to being given more minutes on the pitch this season and his role in the team.

He said: “The gaffer said it is a young squad, and he wanted to add some experience and to obviously help them along.

“I think now through my career I’ve probably experienced a lot in all aspects, and any way I could help the younger lads is obviously going to be something I’m willing to try and do and help as many people as possible.

“Hopefully, you first and foremost do that by performing and setting examples that way, but even off the pitch and things, if anyone ever needs advice or help or whatever, then I’m always going to be there to try and help the changing room be successful.”
