Wycombe Wanderers fans sympathetic as inevitable decision made on former Sunderland coach

Wycombe Wanderers fans have responded after they made the decision to sack manager Mike Dodds.

The former Sunderland coach was appointed as the replacement for Matt Bloomfield after he joined Luton Town.

Form under Dodds has been dismal to say the least and after losing in the League One play-offs, as well as Richard Kone’s departure to QPR, things have turned sour.

Now, with one win this season, the Chairboys have pulled the trigger.

Wycombe Wanderers sack Mike Dodds as manager

The Buckinghamshire club confirmed their decision to sack Dodds on Thursday – just two days before their game against Northampton Town.

First-team coach Pete Shuttleworth has also been dismissed with Wycombe confirming in a statement.

On their club website, it said: “Wycombe Wanderers have today parted company with Head Coach Mike Dodds and First-Team Coach Pete Shuttleworth.

“The board has reluctantly taken this decision, and the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Mike and Pete for their hard work and efforts during their time with Wycombe Wanderers, and wish them every success for the future.”

How Wycombe fans reacted to Mike Dodds sacking

It was a disappointing time in charge for the former Sunderland coach, who managed nine wins from 31 games and just five points from a possible 24 so.

Fans have long been calling for him to leave, and it seems that most felt he was never the right fit.

@apcwwfc said: “Sad for a really nice guy but the right decision unfortunately. Massive respect to those involved who have recognised the error and dealt with it rather than letting it drag on for another 10 games.”

@Harry25566236 added: “Absolutely the right decision, the football has been awful to watch, slow and boring. Never like to see someone lose their job though, especially as he seems a thoroughly decent man. Just never worked out.”

@Ben_stenner15 agreed, replying: “Right call unfortunately. Was always open and honest and but just never worked out on the pitch.”

@MarcosLumb wrote: “Correct call, we have only gone backwards under him unfortunately.”

@Alky007 said: “The right call. I wish them all the best.”
