Blackburn Rovers were busy in the transfer market this summer and made several new additions to Valerien Ismael’s squad; however, one does stand out as a perfect recruit.
While the Lancashire club lost a number of key players from last year and experienced individuals, they did replace them with ones that Valerien Ismael believes will be able to execute his tactical approach.
Ismael has explained that he may dip back into the January transfer market to add to his squad; however, it will need to be for players that fit the new approach being taken by Blackburn.

One of the latest recruits fits the mould perfectly of the way that Blackburn Rovers want to do business moving forward, and he could be the ideal signing the club needs.
Andri Gudjohnsen is the perfect Blackburn Rovers signing
Blackburn Rovers appear to be doing away with the signing of experienced players; however, the links to Craig Dawson may say otherwise, in favour of going for a youthful approach.
Ismael confirmed that the club are looking to focus on youth and development; however, it may indicate Blackburn want to acquire young talents or develop their youth products to later sell them for a higher fee.
The signing of Andri Gudjohnsen fits this approach while also being a player who could be incredibly useful for the first team, as they lost several goal threats over the past season and this summer.
While he has yet to become a clinical finisher, he has all the attributes to do so if Ismael can get the best out of him, and due to his pace and power, he can bring exactly what Blackburn need at the top of the pitch.
High expectations for Andri Gudjohnsen
It may not have helped his career that he is the son of Eidur Gudjohnsen, due to the quality of his father having played for some of the biggest teams across Europe, including Chelsea and Barcelona.
Andri Gudjohnsen has had an impressive career to this point with Iceland, making 34 appearances and scoring nine goals, with his club career being less stellar despite playing for some major clubs at underage, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Much has been expected of him, and now he may finally deliver, with Nils Kern, chief editor at Real Total, describing Gudjohnsen as a complete number nine.
He said: “Andri Gudjohnsen is quite clearly one of the diamonds at La Fábrica and proved this in the 2018/19 season: with 37 goals for the Juvenil C, the U-17, he was the second highest scorer in Real’s youth setup.
“Because of the transfer coup in the summer of 2018, Los Blancos snatched away another gem from Barcelona that does not need many chances.”
