Norwich City will have been pleased to have signed Pelle Mattsson from Silkeborg this summer for the low price of £3 million, especially for how highly sought after he was.
The Canaries believed this signing was vital after Marcelino Nunez’s departure to fierce rivals Ipswich Town earlier in the transfer window, with the Norwich board explaining to fans that the offer was too good to pass up.
The loss of such a talented player requires a replacement, and the Canaries have identified Pelle Mattsson as the man to fill the void left by Nunez.
Losing a youth product is never easy for any club, and that would be the same for Silkeborg; however, their reaction to losing Mattsson is a bit peculiar after the comments made by the club.
Mixed reaction from Silkeborg selling Pelle Mattsson
Silkeborg chief Jesper Stuker admits the club are experiencing mixed emotions after Pelle Mattsson made the move to Norwich City.
The 24-year-old’s move has been met with plenty of pride at his development in keeping with their wider strategy, but Stuker admits they wanted him to stay.
Speaking to the club channels, he said: “We cry a little with one eye and laugh with the other in SIF, because we are always sad to lose talented players, but fortunately, we have a long tradition of new players taking over and taking on the task.
“It is also no secret that Pelle Mattsson is a real Silkeborg boy who has the club in his heart, and that means a lot to fans, society and the club.
“The sale of football players is an important part of our strategy and has helped to move the club to a higher level in recent years. Pelle is another example of this, and this sale places him among the absolute largest in Silkeborg IF’s history.
“In addition, Pelle has clearly expressed that he is ready to try his hand at a higher shelf and that he does not want to extend the contract that expires in 16 months.

Pelle Mattsson on joining Norwich City
The latest Norwich City signing has already made his thoughts clear on what he thinks of his move to the Canaries, as reported in Pink Un.
Mattsson said: “First of all, I’m incredibly proud to move to Norwich. It has been a boyhood dream to play in England, and it has now been fulfilled. It has taken hard work, even when it has been difficult, but it pays off every time.

“Winning a cup title and bronze medals is something I will look back on with joy and pride.
“Next, I want to express a big thank you to the youth coaches in SIF, who have developed me and made me better since I was very young. I really appreciate that and am very grateful for that.
“I want to thank the fans who have supported SIF through thick and thin. And finally, thank you to the players and coaches who have also played a part in me being able to fulfil my dream.”
