‘Confident’… Abu Kamara has already told Portsmouth why they should sign amid links to return

Abu Kamara would help transform the current Portsmouth side, and even he knows how much he could offer to John Mousinho’s side.

Following promotion from League One in the 2023/24 season, Portsmouth did impeccably sell to stabilise themselves in the Championship.

There will be hope that, following on from a respectable 16th place finish, they can build on that and potentially gun for the top half.

As a result of their ambitions, it will be no surprise to see John Mousinho’s side recruit heavily this summer, particularly in the defensive region, having conceded the third most in the 2024/25 Championship season.

However, that is not to say that firepower won’t be added to the final third. Hull City’s Abu Kamara has been linked with a return to Portsmouth, per a report by Hull Daily Mail; such a deal could help transform Portsmouth’s frontline, and Kamara knows exactly how he could help his former club.

Abu Kamara detailed key strengths that could help Portsmouth if transfer is completed

Portsmouth fans are no doubt already aware of Kamara’s abilities, having shown vast potential during a loan spell in the 2023/24 season where he played an integral role in the club’s return to the Championship.

Despite Kamara eventually moving to Hull on a permanent deal, there is still love between the Pompey fans and Kamara – the winger even went on to thank the Fratton Park faithful following the last game of the Championship season, where the Tigers stayed up on the final day.

If any Portsmouth supporters needed reminding of exactly what Kamara can offer when at the peak of his powers, he previously outlined this back in March.

Per Hull Daily Mail, Kamara said: “Confidence is massive. I’d like to say I’m a confident player that likes to get at players, but when things are not going as well, it’s a bit hard as you start to doubt yourself and stuff, so I think when you have confidence, you just play off instinct and do what you do.

“I’m a winger who likes to get people off their seats, get the crowd going, create chances and score goals, so there is an element of that.”

Potential Portsmouth duo could cause havoc in 2025/26

Whilst it would likely take a lucrative offer to persuade Hull City to let Kamara go, especially to a Championship rival, such a move could be massive for Portsmouth.

Knowing that Kamara can operate on either flank, it would be likely for him to go out to the right, whilst Josh Murphy continues down the left.

With the goals and assists Murphy racked up last season, that, paired with a confident Kamara, could be deadly in the upcoming campaign, especially if Colby Bishop hits top form.

There is plenty of time left to go in the summer window, but if Portsmouth were to bring in Kamara, it would be a real sign of intent from Pompey that they are ambitious ahead of next season.
