No sooner after West Bromwich Albion’s play-off dreams were ended was Tony Mowbray out the door.
Mowbray was sacked by West Brom after the Baggies were beaten 3-1 at home by Derby County, shortly after the Albion boss slammed his players.
Results elsewhere meant that a top six finish was no longer mathematically possible and as a result, another Championship season awaits the Albion.

West Brom are now casting their eye over to next season and can take their time to find the right man to be in the Hawthorns dugout.
With that, EFL Analysis looks at five managerial options to replace Mowbray.

Five names who could become the next West Brom manager
Steve Cooper
Out of work since being sacked by Leicester City last November, Steve Cooper knows that a Premier League job is unlikely for the foreseeable future.
Also sacked by Nottingham Forest after masterminding their promotion to the top flight after a 23-year absence, a top-level Championship job would suit him.
His style is similar to Carlos Corberan’s approach in that he likes to play where he can, but is also very pragmatic and thrives on a strong, defensive unit. That philosophy is well-drilled into the players already and could be a good formula once more.
Kim Hellberg
The youngest manager on the list, Kim Hellberg is in charge of Swedish giants Hammarby. Hellberg replaced Marti Cifuentes after he left to join QPR and has continued the good work ever since.
Before Hammarby, the 37-year-old guided minnows IFK Varnamo top a top-five finish and has started the 2025 campaign strongly with three wins and one loss from four games, including a 2-0 victory against Conference League semi-finalists Djurgardens.
A reset is needed in the West Midlands, Hellberg could provide that.
Sean Dyche

The most ambitious of the lot. Sean Dyche might seem out of reach but when he’s been out of work for as long as he has, he may be willing to explore more options.
He also lives in the Midlands too, meaning the commute wouldn’t be a long one and given Albion’s previous pedigree as a Premier League club, being the man to guide them back would restore his reputation.
Dyche may receive more attractive offers and could demand a high pay packet, which may be a stumbling block.
Miron Muslic
This might see strange on the face of it because why would you want a manager in charge of a club looking like they might be relegated?
The truth it though, Plymouth Argyle have looked much better under Miron Muslic than they ever did under Wayne Rooney.
| Games in charge | Wins | Draws | Losses | PPG | |
| Wayne Rooney | 25 | 5 | 6 | 14 | 0.84 |
| Miron Muslic | 21 | 7 | 5 | 9 | 1.24 |
Away form remains a problem but Argyle have claimed some pretty big wins in recent weeks, including a 3-1 victory against Coventry City.
If they go down, Muslic could be tempted to remain in the second tier and with more resources and better players at his disposal, is it the worst option in the world?
Jonny Heitinga

Jonny Heitinga was linked with the West Brom job before the data showed Mowbray was the perfect fit.
Heitinga has been a coach at Liverpool since Arne Slot’s appointment in 2024 and is set to be part of a Premier League-winning side.
His agent said he wasn’t interested in the job back in January but deep down, every coach wants to be a manager at some point.
It would mark a huge reset at the club with a young manager at the helm and a revamp of the playing squad.
