Five signings Leicester City must make this summer including Man United youngster who is a ‘star in the making’

Leicester City are back in the Championship and will have their eyes set firmly on an instant return to the Premier League.

The Foxes are among the favourites for promotion from the Championship this season but will require a huge squad overhaul.

Jamie Vardy has left the Foxes and will need replacing while big earners like Conor Coady are set to depart Leicester too.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to be sacked and could be replaced by Sean Dyche. However, whoever is in charge at the King Power Stadium will have a massive task awaiting them.

EFL Analysis has picked out five signings that Leicester should be making this summer.

Five players Leicester City should sign this summer

Chris Mepham

Centre-back was a huge point of conversation for the Foxes last season as any partnership resulted in abject failure.

Wout Faes and Coady will almost certainly leave and both Jannik Vestergaard and Harry Souttar could also be moved on.

Ben Nelson and Caleb Okoli are the only two who are likely to stay at the King Power Stadium and Chris Mepham could represent a good bit of business.

Out of favour at Bournemouth, the Wales international is likely to move on despite signing a new deal and after winning the play-offs with Sunderland, he certainly has the know-how to get the Foxes promoted.

Harry Amass

King Power’s ongoing financial issues may affect Leicester’s activity in the market and savvy deals may have to be done.

The loan market is a great place to do that and they should look no further than Harry Amass at left-back.

Amass was described as “a star in the making” by The Sun after Manchester United’s game against Wolves and has a big future in the game.

A season of regular first-team football could help and with Victor Kristiansen expected to be sold by Leicester, the 18-year-old can challenge Luke Thomas for the starting spot.

Abdoulaye Doucoure

Abdoulaye Doucoure scored the goal that relegated Leicester in 2023 and after five years at Everton has left as a free agent.

Leicester’s midfield will see plenty leave the club and despite Oliver Skipp and a number of youngsters set to stay, some experience will be needed.

Doucoure is a solid option with years of experience in the Premier League and Championship.

His wages may be a problem but if they can convince the 32-year-old to a relatively short-term deal, it wouldn’t be a terrible idea.

Myron Boadu

A striker is the number one target for the Foxes this summer and the addition of Myron Boadu could work well.

Boadu is 24 and was tipped to be one of the Netherlands’ biggest talents but lost his way after a big-money move to Monaco.

He spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side VfL Bochum, where he couldn’t help keep them up but was their top scorer with nine goals in all competitions.

Injuries hampered him but a fresh start at Leicester where he’d have the chance to be a regular starter and get plenty of chances could appeal.

Joel Piroe

Joel Piroe ended up as the Championship’s top scorer last season with 19 goals but there are still doubts about his future at Leeds United.

Daniel Farke could reunite with Josh Sargent this summer and that would leave Piroe’s place under threat.

Despite this, Leicester would be guaranteed a proven goal scorer and a player they know well after they were beaten by Leeds to his signature in 2023.

If they want a guaranteed 15-20 goals in the second tier, look no further than Piroe.
