Speculation around Josh Sargent’s future is ramping up, and it looks like a reunion with Daniel Farke could be on the cards for the Norwich City striker.

After a mightily impressive return of 15 goals in 32 Championship games in 2024/25, it’s natural that Josh Sargent is now the subject of transfer rumours this summer.

Norwich City will obviously be loath to lose their star striker, but they’ve known for a while that there’s a ‘real chance’ Sargent heads to the Premier League.

Now, they could end up losing him to one of their former Championship rivals, Leeds United, with the Canaries’ former boss Farke on the prowl.

What Daniel Farke said about Josh Sargent in the past

According to Sky Sports Switzerland, Sargent is the subject of a £16.8m approach from newly-promoted Leeds United, who are looking to add firepower to their squad to boost their chances of survival in the top flight.

It should come as no surprise that Farke is keen to team up with Sargent again, though. Speaking back in 2021 when he was first welcoming the striker to Norfolk, Farke was full of praise for the attributes the American brings.

He told the Norwich club website: “Josh has a lot of experience in the top level in the Bundesliga in Germany and has been there with many goals and assists. He has also scored goals for his national team. He’s a very good striking option for us but is someone who can also play on the wing.

“He has pace and is also good with his head. We know he is always there with a big workload and has a fantastic character. We know we have to be a bit more creative in the transfer market. And we think we have a player in Josh who can contribute and develop into a top goalscorer on Premier League level.”

That versatility and prowess in front of goal would be crucial to Leeds’ hopes of establishing themselves in the top flight. At the same time, he would be a massive loss if he is to become one of Norwich’s outgoings this summer.

Josh Sargent is the best striker in the Championship

We would argue Josh Sargent is one of the best players in the Championship, and there’s a definite case to be made that he’s the very best striker in the league right now.

Rival fans even think Sargent is among the best in the second tier, and many had tipped the Norwich man for the big awards in the Championship at the end of last season.

It will not be easy for Norwich to find a replacement for Sargent. Goals are one of the most important and valuable commodities in football; that makes good strikers very expensive and part of a highly competitive market with each passing transfer window.
