Forget Tyler Dibling, Southampton have one ‘unreal’ talent who shone in Ipswich Town draw

Southampton’s academy has birthed yet another top prospect who has already shown his worth in Will Still’s side.

Southampton drew 1-1 at Ipswich Town, a result that Will Still would be content with after his side’s slow start.

Ipswich Town started quickly out of the traps and bagged a goal in the opening minutes, taking advantage of Southampton’s poor defending.

It looked as though the Tractor Boys were going to keep Southampton under the cosh, but they responded by putting Kieran McKenna’s side under pressure before it soon paid dividends.

Popping up at the right place at the right time was Southampton youngster Jay Robinson, with a brilliant header past the clutches of Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

It summed up a brilliant performance from the 18-year-old on just his third start in senior football, and has made Southampton fans realise that they may have already found a successor for Tyler Dibling.

Flynn Downes praises Jay Robinson after top performance vs Ipswich Town

Jay Robinson proved to be one of Southampton’s main attacking threats, showing bags of energy in the final third.

Since the 18-year-old burst onto the scene at St Mary’s, he has impressed several of the Southampton players, including Flynn Downes, who reflected positively on his performance against Ipswich Town.

“He’s been unreal to be fair. I think everyone can see his talent; it speaks for itself, but I think off the ball, you see the hard work, you see how humble he is, and he deserves that goal,” said Downes when speaking to Sky Sports.

Robinson also reflected on his performance, having said: “I am really happy, I just try and enjoy playing football and get as many wins as possible.”

It was just the youngster’s sixth game in Southampton colours, and there is no doubt that we are set to see him on the score sheet quite often for Will Still’s side.

Southampton may have found Tyler Dibling replacement in Jay Robinson

Southampton winger Tyler Dibling is currently in limbo over a potential move to Everton.

Whilst Dibling’s future is not confirmed, Saints fans will rest well knowing that they have the capable qualities of Jay Robinson as a worthy suitor to Dibling.

It is still early knockings in Robinson’s first team journey, but he has already shown himself as a capable forward at Championship level, and hopefully, there is plenty more for him to offer to Will Still’s side.

As for Dibling, Southampton could be in line to make a significant amount of money from the in-demand attacker, which could then be heavily invested back into the squad to prepare them for a promotion push in the Championship.
