Leicester City should rescue former 29-goal Championship striker from overseas nightmare

Leicester City have no manager at the moment, and also have no first choice number nine.

Jamie Vardy officially left Leicester at the end of last season to leave the Foxes with Patson Daka as the only senior striker, along with teenage sensation Jake Evans.

Danny Rohl is the favourite to become the new Leicester manager and his first order of business will be to find that replacement for Vardy.

It won’t be easy and anyone who takes on the job will have big shoes to fill at the King Power Stadium.

Luckily, there’s one player who could be open to a move.

Leicester City should make a move for Chuba Akpom

Chuba Akpom is a name that people at Leicester will know well after reports from De Telegraaf suggested in January that the Foxes were going to make an offer for the former Arsenal academy graduate.

That didn’t come to fruition and Akpom joined Lille on loan but has returned to Ajax where things have taken a turn for the worse.

Akpom, who joined Ajax in 2023 after scoring 29 goals for Middlesbrough, returned to the Dutch giants to be told he was one of seven players that would be ostracised from the first team via a WhatsApp message, according to reports in the Netherlands.

Strikers linked with Leicester in the past have previously known that they would be fighting a losing battle to start ahead of Vardy.

With the forward in need of a move to reignite his career and Leicester needing a striker, it feels like a match made in heaven.

Michael Carrick’s glowing review of Chuba Akpom is good news for Leicester

Michael Carrick was responsible for getting the best out of Akpom during his time at Middlesbrough.

Under his guidance, Akpom was able to win the Championship golden boot and back in April 2023, Carrick praised his desire to always learn as the inspiration behind his form.

He told Sky Sports: “Chuba has been very good in how he’s gone about it. It’s not just his goals and his performances, it’s his attitude, demeanour, willingness to learn and improve.

“It’s been really enjoyable to see him develop and grow. But there’s still more to come from him.”
