Liam Manning should turn Norwich City outcast to change the Canaries’ fortunes at Carrow Road

Norwich City have struggled this season at Carrow Road under Liam Manning, as they have failed to win so far in the Championship campaign at home.

This wait for a first home win was extended at the weekend following their loss to Wrexham, with it being a worrying performance, particularly in defence, as the Red Dragons appeared to be able to cut them open at will.

Manning built his reputation at Bristol City by making his sides hard to beat; however, this has not been the case while at Norwich.

However, there is a ready-made solution that Manning has seemingly been unwilling to use since being appointed manager of the Canaries.

Shane Duffy should return to the Norwich City team

Manning had made it clear that he was happy for Shane Duffy to exit Carrow Road this summer; however, no club made a move for the Irish defender.

A reason behind why he did not exit the club appears to be because his wages are considerable for Championship clubs.

Duffy only has a year left on his contract and will likely exit the club at the end of his current deal; however, it would make sense for Manning to use the experienced defender to solve their defensive woes.

Norwich were exposed countless times and were lucky that Vladan Kovacevic was on form against Wrexham to keep the scoreline respectable.

Duffy is an old-school defender, resolute at the back and focuses on the basics before attempting to progress the ball forward in a possession-based style.

However, with the struggles that Norwich are currently undergoing, it would be advisable to bring Duffy back into the side to get a result before looking to evolve the side.

While the Irish defender was ruled out of the Wrexham game with an injury, he should be fit to return to action for their next home game against West Brom.

Pressure building on Liam Manning

While there is no worry at present about Liam Manning being removed from his position at Norwich due to only being appointed in the summer.

However, Manning can ease the pressure that is growing on him by bringing Duffy into the side to get a result at Carrow Road.

The current Norwich City manager was brought in to the club due to the job he did at Bristol City and getting them into the play-offs, as the Canaries are desperate to return to the Premier League after three years away from the English top flight.
