Marti Cifuentes provides ‘totally fair’ verdict on Leicester City boos, the board must help him

Marti Cifuentes has addressed the boos that he and his Leicester City players received after losing to Preston North End.

The Foxes couldn’t follow up their narrow win against Sheffield Wednesday after they were beaten at Deepdale.

Jeremy Monga became the Championship’s youngest-ever goal scorer on the day but it still wasn’t enough and fans made their feelings known.

In a bid to calm down the tensions, Abdul Fatawu urged Leicester supporters to stick with them, but his manager seemed to have a different viewpoint.

Marti Cifuentes says Leicester fans ‘have the right to boo’

Supporting Leicester has been difficult for the best part of a year, maybe even longer.

Relations between the owners and fans are as low as ever and the Foxes still have a pending points deduction to deal with.

They still have a strong squad on paper but that doesn’t guarantee points and Cifuentes thinks the fans are entitled to voice their frustrations.

He said: “I think the fans have the right to be disappointed when we lose games. Otherwise, why are they fans?

“They need to be happy when we win games and upset when we don’t. It’s totally fair. We didn’t play a great football game, so there’s no problem about that.

“I’m aware of the task I have on my hands. It’s not going to be a one-day, one-week, one-month job. We need to change the dynamic that has, unfortunately, been there for too long. That’s not an excuse, it’s an awareness.”

Leicester City still haven’t been active in the transfer window

In two weeks’ time, the transfer window slams shut until January and until that point, only free agents will be able to join.

Cifuentes has been working on shrinking his squad but it is abundantly clear that it needs a new lease of life too.

Conor Coady, Mads Hermansen and Wilfred Ndidi have all left while talks of others following have also been mentioned.

Even still, supporters want to see new heroes emerge and that will only happen if Cifuentes is allowed to bring in new players.
