Hull City must take drastic action to bring in recruits of a certain ilk after the details of their transfer ban emerged.
Hull City have been handed an embargo that will last three transfer windows, starting on 4th July.
As a result, the Tigers will be unable to pay any transfer fees, leaving new boss Sergej Jakirovic with an insurmountable task ahead of him this season.
After the news broke, Hull City fans blamed Acun Ilicali for the behind-the-scenes mess, especially after the owner had assured supporters just days ago that the club was financially sound.
With it now clear that Hull City will be unable to target several of their options, it would make sense for one player to be on Ilicali’s radar as a means of damage limitation.

Hull City should target a return for Aaron Connolly as financial issues limit the Tigers’ business
It will now be very important for the Hull City hierarchy to be shrewd with their business and be aware of the various free agents that may be available to pick up.
As a result, it would make sense if the Tigers targeted a return for Aaron Connolly.
The Irish forward had stints at both Sunderland and Millwall last season, but now finds himself once again without a club as the 2025/26 Championship season looms.
Whilst injuries hampered his game time occasionally during his spell at Hull City, he often showed his quality, having bagged a total of 10 Championship goals in 33 games across two campaigns.
Attacking prowess was invisible in Hull’s side last season, and whilst Connolly has not got a top record at this level, he is still a 25-year-old with plenty to offer, and as free signings go, he would be a shrewd pick- up by Acun Ilicali.

Acun Ilicali will struggle to fix key issue this summer
As a result of Hull being handed their three-window ban, their task with regard to recruitment will become a massive task for the hierarchy.
Hull City were the lowest goalscorers in the 2024/25 Championship season, which led to the expectation that Ilicali would spend big on a top forward with proven experience at this level, but that will not be possible anymore.
The attacking options that will be at Sergej Jakirovic’s disposal will look slightly healthier with the returns of Liam Millar and Mo Belloumi, but as out-and-out strikers go, there is very little at the club.
The departure of Joao Pedro, in hindsight, looks disastrous as well – you would think that the club would show some foresight to ease the financial woes by not letting key players go for free when they cannot be replaced.
