Sheffield Wednesday’s clarity regarding their managerial set-up should now be followed up by one thing Barry Bannan currently prioritises.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to part ways with Danny Rohl, as exclusively confirmed by EFL Analysis.

Following the German’s imminent departure, it is expected that Henrik Pedersen will succeed Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan has been vocal in his support of Henrik Pedersen last season, showing that the popular figure will likely have the full backing of the squad.

With there now being more clarity on the decision surrounding Rohl and his future at the club, Bannan will now expect Sheffield Wednesday to undertake one decision that is crucial for the Owls ahead of the upcoming season.

Sheffield Wednesday must now follow up Danny Rohl decision by offering Barry Bannan new contract

With the 2025/26 Championship season looming for Sheffield Wednesday, they need to ensure that they keep hold of as many key players as possible.

Barry Bannan has already spoken about his desire to stay at Sheffield Wednesday, and despite interest from other Championship clubs, the Scotsman is keen to continue in S6.

Sheffield Wednesday have opened up talks to re-sign Callum Paterson, suggesting that the club have enough financial leeway to offer contracts. Whilst Bannan was on a sizeable deal at Hillsborough, he would likely even take a slight pay cut to ensure he can stay at the club.

Why keeping Barry Bannan at the club is so crucial

Having spent a decade at Hillsborough Stadium, in times of darkness, Barry Bannan is one of the few faces at the club who continues to give supporters a glimmer of hope.

If there was one figure at the club that best represented the fanbase, it would be Bannan – and losing that would be catastrophic for Sheffield Wednesday.

Without Bannan in the squad, this current Sheffield Wednesday side would lack direction, as well as a figurehead to follow.

Aside from his clear influence as a leader in the dressing room, to put it simply, he is still a brilliant player at Championship level, one that Sheffield Wednesday cannot afford to lose, especially amid their restricted abilities in the transfer window.

It is a non-negotiable for all supporters, whether it is pursued by Dejphon Chansiri or a potential successor. Lose Bannan, and you will lose the supporters.
