One Sheffield Wednesday fan favourite could still return to the club as talks begin.
Sheffield Wednesday’s preparations for the 2025/26 season have been significantly hampered by off-the-field issues.
As concerns lingered over Dejphon Chansiri’s difficulties in running Sheffield Wednesday sustainably, with players and staff not being paid on time, the prospect of a takeover at the club soon became likely.
Unfortunately, takeover talks with potential Chansiri successors have gone pear-shaped, once again plunging the club’s future into doubt.
Even the managerial situation at Sheffield Wednesday has been a mess, with EFL Analysis exclusively confirming that Danny Rohl will leave his position at the club.
With all of the bad news surrounding the club, Sheffield Wednesday supporters will be glad to know that talks with one former Owls ace have opened up over the prospect of returning to the club.

Former Sheffield Wednesday star Callum Paterson opens talks over return
Sheffield Wednesday fan favourite Callum Paterson’s contract expired following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Championship season, putting his future in S6 in doubt.
However, it now looks as though he could return to the club, as, according to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday have opened up talks with Paterson to seal a move back to Hillsborough.
Paterson’s priority has always been extending his stay at Sheffield Wednesday, as, back in March, he reflected on how he was keen to continue at the club.
“Yeah, I’d love to be here,” he said when speaking to The Star. “But that’s not my decision to make. All I can do is give my all, like I have done every time I’ve been asked, and hopefully things will happen.”

Callum Paterson will play a more key role this season
In the 2024/25 Championship campaign, Callum Paterson was often utilised from off the bench for Sheffield Wednesday, having notched only 14 starts.
Paterson’s game time increased significantly in the back-end of the season after Danny Rohl had seemingly lost faith in Ike Ugbo, and to a lesser extent, Jamal Lowe, in comparison to the veteran Scot.
The forward was vocal with Rohl about his desires for more game time, and that could be one of the reasons behind his desire to return. With Sheffield Wednesday being under embargo, Paterson would be a crucial returnee to the club because of his proven ability at Championship level.
