Sheffield Wednesday’s summer transfer window has been nothing short of chaotic, but some positive news has finally emerged.
Sheffield Wednesday were slapped with a triple transfer embargo by the EFL at the start of July, following their non-payment of transfer fees.
This was after Dejphon Chansiri breached the rules by failing to pay his players on multiple occasions, while there was an embargo slapped on the Owls relating to outstanding payments to the HMRC.
With Danny Rohl’s position at Sheffield Wednesday being questioned and the impact of a three-window transfer ban, there appeared to be no light at the end of the tunnel at Hillsborough.
But, there was finally a positive update to share in their ongoing battle with the EFL, even if their overall financial situation spells trouble.

Sheffield Wednesday embargo removed after settling payments with the HMRC
It was reported on Tuesday that Sheffield Wednesday had paid some of their players and staff on July 14, which was a boost as those who remained unpaid could have walked away from the club.
Wednesday have also settled the money owed to the HMRC, and in turn, the EFL have removed their relevant embargoes from their Embargoes and Fee Restrictions’ page, leaving only one behind – Regulation 52.2.3 (Non-payment of transfer fees).
A double embargo being written off will be seen as positive news, but until they settle their outstanding transfer fees with other clubs, they will be bound by the restrictions set by the EFL, including their three-window transfer restriction and only being allowed to give new players £7k-a-week.
So, while Chansiri has finally made some progress on the situation, the Owls are still in for a long summer with more first-team stars set to depart.

Problems will only continue for Sheffield Wednesday
There have been talks of a takeover happening at Sheffield Wednesday, with Tilman Fertitta the latest name being linked with a possible swoop for the Yorkshire outfit.
Fertitta once attempted to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich, which was telling of his ambition as a businessman, and something Wednesday currently need.
However, the chances of any movement happening before the start of the new season are incredibly slim, and with the future of Rohl up in the air, the Owls will enter the 2025/26 incredibly unsettled.
That isn’t even the biggest problem facing Sheffield Wednesday, because even after Chansiri finally paid his players’ wages for June, there are fewer than two weeks until the players will need paying for July, presenting more problems for the club.
