Sunderland are going into the Championship play-offs with one huge concern.
Sunderland suffered defeat to QPR on the final day of the 2024/25 Championship season.
The final day was never going to influence where Sunderland were set to finish in the Championship, with them always set to finish 4th. Sunderland now know they will face off against Coventry City in the Championship play-offs, where they will have to travel to the CBS Arena for the first leg, before welcoming Frank Lampard’s side to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland were shocking last time out against Coventry City, a game that Regis Le Bris hs promised that there won’t be a repeat of.
Unfortunately for Le Bris, there is one huge concern that Sunderland are facing that could significantly hinder their chances in the play-offs this season.

Sunderland go into the Championship play-offs with worst form in the league
In the last five games in the Championship, Sunderland have lost every single game, and deservedly find themselves as the most out-of-form side in the league.
The last six in fact have also seen Sunderland find the back of the net just once, a rather staggering contrast to the Black Cats side that looked so confident in the final third at the start of the 2024/25 Championship season.
Defensively, Sunderland have still looked rather regimented, whilst still being far from their best, but the issues clearly lie within their attacking players, who look a shell of their former selves, and it seems as though confidence is in the gutter amongst many players, the last thing that Le Bris’ side need when going into the play-offs.

Regis Le Bris must restore confidence in attacking duo ahead of play-offs
Whilst there isn’t long until Sunderland’s play-off campaign kicks off against Coventry City, Le Bris must still use the time in the build-up wisely. One thing that he must look into solving is the issues for his side in front of goal, which has seen attacking pair Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor struggle.
In the first half of the campaign, Frenchman Isidor was unplayable, constantly lingering off the shoulder of the last defender because of his ability to outpace 95% of Championship defenders, whilst Mayenda came into hot form in the last couple of months, but now neither seems confident in attack.
Any success Sunderland receive in the Championship play-offs will ultimately be dictated on whether these two are able to imminently fix their troubles infront of goal, something that, based on recent form, appears to be unlikely.
