Sheffield United have unwanted company as Chris Wilder may be alarmed by Wycombe Wanderers warning

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder will be particularly worried after learning the feat of Wycombe Wanderers, the previous side to lose their first six Championship games.

Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United homecoming was ruined as Charlton Athletic won the game 1-0 at the death.

The Blades continued their woes in front of goal, having scored just one goal in the opening six Championship games, where Sheffield United have not accumulated any points.

Sheffield United’s woes were expected to be softened with the arrival of Wilder, but the defeat to Charlton showed the issues that the new Blades boss has to face this season.

Sheffield United’s hopes of promotion have been significantly hampered, and now fans are worried over the prospect of relegation to League One, just one season after they missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Six successive defeats to kick off the season will always raise concerns, and Wilder will be hoping that his club do not repeat the feat of the previous side that fell to six losses.

Chris Wilder will be keen not to repeat Wycombe Wanderers woes with Sheffield United

The last time that a Championship side lost their first six games of a season was Wycombe Wanderers in the 2020/21 season.

The Chairboys had come up from League One, but were sent straight back down, having then finished the season in 22nd.

While the OPTA supercomputer has suggested that Sheffield United have a 17.32% chance at relegation this season, Blades fans will feel as though the likelihood is much greater if Chris Wilder is unable to fix their woes.

They will have the opportunity to turn things around in their next game against a fellow troubled Oxford United side.

Sheffield United’s next five fixtures

Coming up next for Sheffield United is a trip to Oxford United, a game that Chris Wilder will place plenty of importance on.

Following their clash with Oxford, a home clash against Southampton awaits before a trip across Yorkshire to Hull City.

Bramall Lane will then host a contest against Watford, which is then followed by an away clash against Blackburn Rovers.

The next five for Sheffield United provide a significant opportunity for Wilder’s side, and there will be an expectation that they can turn things around in that favourable run of games.

It can be argued that a minimum of 10 points are needed for Sheffield United if any faint hopes of promotion can be revived.
