The goalkeeping department has been a problem position for Southampton so far this season.
Southampton loaned out Aaron Ramsdale to Newcastle United in the summer transfer window on a season-long deal.
Therefore, Republic of Ireland international Gavin Bazunu has established himself as the Southampton number one for the season.
Unfortunately for both Ramsdale and Bazunu, the current campaign has not gone well for either shot-stopper so far, and all parties involved could be regretting their summer moves amid one concerning statistic.

Gavin Bazunu has conceded more goals than made saves this season
Saints boss Will Still believes Southampton are struggling to score, but equally, their defensive record so far this season has been just as worrying.
In six Championship outings, Still’s side have conceded nine goals and scored just seven.
Although mitigated by the poor performances of the defenders in front of him, Bazunu’s form between the Saints’ sticks has been concerning thus far.
In those six second tier showings, Bazunu has conceded more goals (nine) than he has made saves (six) so far in the Championship season.
| Statistic | Gavin Bazunu for Southampton |
| Games | 6 |
| Goals conceded | 9 |
| Shots faced | 17 |
| Clean sheets | 1 |
| Saves | 8 |
The 23-year-old shipped three at Hull City on Saturday afternoon, saving just one quarter of the Tigers’ four shots on target.
When Southampton face Liverpool tonight in the Carabao Cup third round clash, Still may opt for veteran goalkeeper Alex McCarthy as he did in the previous cup wins against Northampton Town and Norwich City.
In fact, 35-year-old McCarthy kept two clean sheets in those affairs, but the trip to Anfield would be a monumentally harder challenge for the Saints stalwart to keep a shut-out.

Aaron Ramsdale has not made Newcastle United debut yet
Ramsdale joined Eddie Howe’s Magpies on loan for the season amid his efforts to work his way back into England contention.
Given the form of Newcastle’s number one, Nick Pope, the Saints loanee is yet to make his Magpies debut after watching his teammate keep a shut-out at Bournemouth, Ramsdale and Howe’s former club.
Evidently, Ramsdale is doing himself no favours regarding his Three Lions future by sitting on Newcastle’s bench at the expense of Pope.
Newcastle host Bradford City, who sit top of the League One table, in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday evening, which could see Howe grant the Southampton loanee his debut at St James’ Park.
Ramsdale will need to impress to displace Pope, but with Bazunu and the Saints struggling for form, there is an argument to be made that his England hopes would have a better chance at resurrection by starring for Southampton rather than being on the fringes at Newcastle.
