EFL expert George Elek is extremely excited by Sheffield Wednesday’s Man United loanee Harry Amass after their 2-0 win over Portsmouth on Saturday.
Throughout the summer, Sheffield Wednesday endured a torrid time in basically every department of the football club as frustration towards Dejphon Chansiri grew with each passing day.
However, good news eventually came for Owls fans on deadline day with Sheffield Wednesday’s loan signing of Harry Amass from Man United, who will bring some exciting “qualities” to the squad.
Despite Sheffield Wednesday’s calamitous deadline day, the signing of Amass is a mutually beneficial move for all parties involved. The young left-back should get vital first-team football regularly.

A former coach of Amass’ has talked up the Man United loanee already but details of Amass’ Sheffield Wednesday loan highlighted that Man United are keen to get him that exposure after just seven appearances for their first-team squad.
The Red Devils have agreed to pay all fees for the full-back’s stint in S6, including his wages and accommodation costs. So long as Amass plays regularly, it should be a win-win situation for all involved.
In the end, the 18-year-old was their only signing of the summer because the EFL blocked Sheffield Wednesday’s attempt to sign Jayden Heskey. Instead, Amass was confirmed by Wednesday on deadline day.
After debuting with a 3-0 defeat to Bristol City, Portsmouth was much more like it from Amass’ perspective. He caught the eye at Fratton Park. George Elek of the Not The Top 20 Podcast said as much.
He said: “But you look at the team like it’s it’s striking that [Henrik Pedersen] the manager has selected [Bailey] Cadamarteri and [George] Brown up front here given that Jamal Lowe and Ike Ugbo were on the bench and came off the bench.
“You’ve also got in the heart of defence Ernie Weaver, a 19-year-old playing at centre-back, too. And almost probably most excitingly, Harry Amass, the loanee from Manchester United who played on the left-hand side and was really impressive.
“He looks like a proper player. Someone who has that confidence. Often with these academy graduates from top clubs, you know the technical ability is going to be there.
“And his left foot and these kind of wedged balls that he could play over the top that for Cadamarteri in the first half and then the strikers that came on to run onto were so effective.
“But it’s his all-action performances out of possession that are really impressive. Someone who’s really —
his timing of the tackles is is impeccable. Really willing to get stuck in.
“For an 18-year-old kid in this kind of atmosphere and with what’s at stake here to be putting himself about as as he is so early on in his loan is mightily impressive.
“And I think he’s going to be a big, big player for them this season.”
