Ask anyone affiliated to Sheffield Wednesday and the idea of signing a player on transfer deadline day would’ve been a laughable thing to suggest.

Wednesday have had it rougher than anyone in this window and due to EFL transfer restrictions only allowing them to sign players on a free transfer.

Against all the odds, though, Henrik Pedersen’s side added to their squad on deadline day as young left-back Harry Amass joined the Owls from Manchester United on loan.

Amass was wanted by Wednesday throughout the whole of the summer and got their man thanks to the kindness of Man United.

Man United to help Sheffield Wednesday out with Harry Amass loan fees

Everyone knows of Wednesday’s transfer complications preventing them from paying any fees.

The loan deal involving Amass did include a fee but, as per the Sheffield Star, Man United have agreed to pay for everything.

This includes his wages, cost of accommodation and any bonuses he collects from his time at Hillsborough.

An attempt to sign Jayden Heskey was blocked by the EFL, but one signing is better than nothing and United’s generosity won’t be forgotten.

After his move to Hillsborough was confirmed, Amass spoke to the Wednesday social media channels.

“I’m very excited, I can’t wait to get going and I’m just really happy that it has all happened, said the 18-year-old.

“I think as a player, I would say I’m exciting, I’m confident, I’m hard-working and really ready for this challenge.

“One of my biggest strengths is that I believe in myself, I know what I’m capable of and my main goal is to perform week in, week out and show consistency.

“I want to be exciting for the fans to watch.”
