Sheffield Wednesday completed the loan capture of Manchester United starlet Harry Amass on transfer deadline day.

Throughout the summer, Sheffield Wednesday have endured torrid times in every department of the football club.

At boardroom level, the financial issues overseen by Dejphon Chansiri still linger over Hillsborough Stadium, and matters on the pitch have echoed that so far this season.

In Henrik Pedersen’s first stint in charge of the Owls, they sit 23rd in the Championship table after losing three and drawing once in their opening four league fixtures.

However, good news eventually came for Owls fans on deadline day with Sheffield Wednesday’s loan signing of Harry Amass from Manchester United, who will bring some exciting “qualities” to the Owls squad.

Harry Amass will bring ‘qualities’ to Sheffield Wednesday on loan

The EFL blocked Sheffield Wednesday’s attempt to sign Jayden Heskey, but thankfully for the Owls, the loan signing of Amass was confirmed by the club on deadline day.

Details of Amass’ Sheffield Wednesday loan highlighted that Man United have agreed to pay all fees for the full-back’s stint in S6, including his wages and accommodation costs.

After failing to make a senior appearance for Watford, Amass moved to Old Trafford in 2023 and has since made seven first-team appearances for the Red Devils.

In terms of what the 18-year-old prospect will bring to the Owls, Amass’ former Watford coach Omer Riza has lifted the lid on what Sheffield Wednesday can expect from the young defender.

Last season, Riza told the Manchester Evening News: “Manchester United is a massive club, and he has done very well.

“I don’t think it is going to be attributes that will be a problem; I think he will continue to play the way he has always played, and that is with energy, aggression and the enjoyment of being able to attack and cause problems with the qualities he has got.

“I think he is a very forward-thinking, attacking player. He has got a very attacking mentality; I think that is the thing that stood out for him as a full-back.

“He’s quick, he’s powerful, he can get forward, he can deliver, and he can score.

“I think it is the flip side that’s going to be the thing for Harry and how well he defends.

“At the end of the day, it is about your primary job first, and he has definitely got the tools when it comes to attacking, it is just whether he is going to have what he needs defensively against top, top, top players.”

Harry Amass reveals what convinced him to join Sheffield Wednesday

Despite Sheffield Wednesday’s calamitous deadline day, the signing of Amass is a mutually beneficial move for all parties.

Amass will earn vital experience in his fight to help Sheffield Wednesday in their fight against relegation, and he will return to Old Trafford as a better developed player with more senior football under his belt.

The off-field matters at Hillsborough have plagued the club all summer, but Amass has admitted that Owls boss Pedersen played a pivotal role in attracting him to Wednesday.

Amass told Sheffield Wednesday’s website: “I just had a good feeling instantly when I spoke to the manager.

“I got the feeling that this will be the best place for me, the history of the place is massive and that’s why I chose here.

“I want to take all of that (Manchester United experience) into this next stage, and that’s what I’m here to do now.”
