Blackpool make Jerry Yates admission as alternative striker with ‘Championship interest’ identified

EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal where Blackpool are in their current striker search as Jerry Yates and one alternative have been mentioned.

Blackpool have some money to spend after selling Rob Apter to Charlton Athletic and Steve Bruce will be hoping he gets the Seasiders back to the Championship at the third attempt.

While we’ve predicted Blackpool to finish outside of the play-offs, the right signings could see them move a few places up the League One table.

Yates is one of those players who could do that and the chances of bringing him back to Bloomfield Road have now become clear.

Blackpool have a slim chance of signing Jerry Yates

Earlier this year, we revealed that Derby County were unlikely to keep Yates after spending last season on loan at Pride Park.

Although a move is unlikely, EFL Analysis’ Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey confirmed that the Swansea City striker is unlikely to seal a return to Blackpool unless he is still looking for somewhere near the end of the window.

Bailey said: “They do want him, but the player isn’t that keen to drop down from the Championship at this point. So I think Blackpool accept that.

“If it carries on into August, maybe they’ve got half a chance. but it’s a long shot.”

Blackpool identify Dale Taylor as transfer target

Yates isn’t the only striker on the Seasiders’ radar after Bailey also confirmed that Nottingham Forest’s Dale Taylor is being eyed up.

Taylor scored 11 goals on loan at Wigan Athletic last season and is being linked with a number of Championship and League One sides permanently.

Bailey added that Blackpool are one of those, but like Yates, will be difficult to sign.

“He’s definitely leaving Forest,” our expert said. “He is someone who Blackpool like but he may well get Championship interest as well.

“There are some Championship clubs following him. It’s not a given that Blackpool will get him.”
