Derby County face hold-up in deal for Bristol Rovers midfielder, there’s League One interest

Derby County have been in pursuit of Kamil Conteh this summer, and EFL Analysis have an exclusive update on their interest.

The Rams have made five signings in the transfer window, with the club now showing an interest in French striker Timothe Nkada.

Bringing more goals to the team is vital this season for John Eustace after Derby avoided relegation on the final day of 2024/25. However, the midfield still needs work to ensure that they have enough to compete with their rivals in the Championship.

Lewis Travis has previously been a target, but Conteh’s name has also sprung up on a number of occasions in the last few months.

Exclusive: Derby County’s pursuit of Kamil Conteh has slowed

The 22-year-old made 19 appearances for Bristol Rovers last season, with injuries ending his campaign early. Nevertheless, Derby have been keen on Conteh throughout the summer.

Now, in an EFL Analysis exclusive, Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey has an update on the midfielder’s future. He said: “They didn’t agree a fee before. Bristol Rovers aren’t desperate to let him go. I’ve heard Cardiff and Plymouth are keen on him as well. This one’s going to run into August.

“Bristol Rovers want to keep him. So, if no one’s wanted to meet the price tag, he won’t go.

“Derby thought they were close, but just couldn’t get it over the line. They do still have an interest, but it will take time.”

Kamil Conteh’s importance seems to have lessened for John Eustace

Based on Derby’s work in the transfer window so far, it would be a surprise to see Conteh make the switch to Pride Park as experience has been the key to Eustace’s scouting so far.

The jump from League Two to the Championship is large, and there will be a debate as to whether the former Grimsby Town man can make that.

Game time could be hard to come by in the East Midlands for Conteh, and therefore a move to League One could be more desirable. However, as Graeme explained, Bristol Rovers do not feel pressured to sell unless their asking price is matched.
