Derby County are seriously taking shape under John Eustace ahead of the new campaign, and there is excitement around Pride Park ahead of their Championship opener.

The Rams ended their pre-season fixtures with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Greek side Atromitos on Saturday afternoon. Once again it was Corey Blackett-Taylor who impressed after struggling under Paul Warne, and there are high hopes for the new season.

Derby have been busy in the transfer market and recently added Rhian Brewster to their squad last week, but he has not lined up yet for the Rams ahead of the season.

Eustace is seen as one of the best managers in the division and has worked with some good players, with the coach trusting certain players to get the job done.

This has seen him bring in players to Derby that have played for him before, and he has done it again after he brought in Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth from Blackburn Rovers.

Derby County sign Dion Sanderson

John Eustace has reinforced his defensive options with the signing of Dion Sanderson on loan from Birmingham City.

Sanderson will spend the season at Pride Park this year, reuniting with Eustace for the fourth time, after having played for him at Birmingham, QPR and Blackburn.

Sanderson appears to be a huge fan of Eustace, having decided to spend much of his career playing for the coach across four different clubs.

He will be hopeful he can pick up where he left off with his partnership with Batth, with the two helping Blackburn almost reach the play-offs.

Dion Sanderson’s view of John Eustace

Sanderson has spoken to Derby media about his decision to sign for Derby and how sharply the deal happened, with everything occurring over a day.

He spoke about why he wanted to join the club on loan, with Eustace being a major factor in his decision.

Sanderson said: “I think he is a quality person. He’s a quality manager.

“I think fans, anyone who has worked with him, players, staff, you see what he has done last season, and I think it was incredible.

“I do enjoy my work under him; I know what he wants from me, and I’m just glad to be here.”
