Forget Josh Sargent, another Norwich City ace could be on their way out of Carrow Road this summer

Norwich City return to Carrow Road this weekend for their Championship opener against Millwall at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

It was a very disappointing end to the last campaign for the Canaries, with Johannes Hoff Thorup’s position becoming untenable.

Liam Manning was brought in to replace the Dane, and he has had a very strong summer, despite Borja Sainz leaving for Porto in July.

However, there is now another transfer saga that is set to hit Carrow Road, but Norwich may have already decided on the future of the player. Yet, it’s not Josh Sargent, who has been linked with a move away throughout the summer.

Marcelino Nunez could leave Norwich City this summer

The Canaries have an excellent home record against Millwall, and they will be hoping that continues this weekend ahead of the Lions’ visit. Yet, there is now debate around the future of Marcelino Nunez.

According to the Pink Un, Norwich will let the Chilean depart the club before the transfer window ends on 1 September, with the midfielder now in the final year of his contract in Norfolk.

Claims made in Turkey by Fotomac on Thursday morning have linked the 25-year-old with a move to Trabzonspor, a club who showed significant interest in Nunez this time last year. However, all bids were rejected then.

Clubs in Spain are also taking note of his situation, although no advances have been made for the Norwich ace after he made 32 appearances in the Championship last season.

Marcelino Nunez will be a significant loss for the Canaries

Although he is going to be allowed to leave, there is no denying what Nunez does bring to the Canaries’ midfield.

He scored six goals and registered four assists in the league in 2025/26, and at 25, he is still developing. However, with just a year left on his contract, it could be a case of sell now or lose out in 12 months.

While a frustrating situation, Manning has been busy in the transfer market already and he has made some fantastic signings who will help put the team into contention for a top six finish.

Nevertheless, a like-for-like replacement may be sought using the money gained from any potential deal and Norwich will not want the saga to drag out.
