Hayden Hackney Middlesbrough exit update as another Premier League club join race for in-demand star

Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney is the subject of yet more transfer interest this week.

We reported back in March amid interest from Crystal Palace that Hayden Hackney was expected to leave Middlesbrough if they failed to make the Championship play-offs.

That proved to be the case, with Boro ending 2024/25 sitting 10th in the second tier – their worst finish under Michael Carrick.

Carrick has since left the Riverside Stadium, and it looks as though the Boro academy product will be heading towards the exit door as well, with another club joining the race for Hackney this week.

Premier League club join Hayden Hackney transfer race

We shared in May that while Rav van den Berg and Finn Azaz also had transfer interest, Hackney was most likely to leave Middlesbrough.

This is because he came up through the club’s youth ranks, and any transfer fee would be 100 percent profit as a result.

Most recently, EFL Analysis reported that Hackney was changing agents ahead of leaving Middlesbrough this summer.

At the time, we confirmed all of Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, FC Porto, Erik Ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and Italian side Atalanta have all looked at the player.

Now, Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas is reporting that Premier League sides have been making checks on Hackney regarding his price and availability ahead of a potential summer move.

Middlesbrough price-tag for Hayden Hackney

Middlesbrough have become a selling club in recent years, earning big fees for the likes of Morgan Rogers and Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Previously, we asked our transfer expert, Graeme Bailey, about Hackney’s price-tag.

And he suggested a fee upwards of £20m could be what is needed for Middlesbrough to sell.

He said: “Hayden Hackney obviously does have a lot of interest from some teams in Europe, and in England there are a host of clubs who have watched him; there isn’t a single Premier League club who hasn’t watched Hackney.

“He’s doing well and Middlesbrough will have a price on him. If someone comes in with £20-25m it’ll be very hard for Middlesbrough to turn that down. It’s pure profit.

“There is an awful lot of interest in him. Obviously he is at the U21 Euros with England now and doing well there. Do I expect Hackney to still be at Boro come September? I’d be surprised at this point if he was still there.
