Hull City look set to capture the signing of the son of a World Cup winner.

The Tigers have had a mixed start to life under Sergej Jakirovic and know that the pressure is on, with Acun Ilicali’s expectations always very high.

Despite the EFL’s imposed transfer restrictions, Hull were still able to make a number of signings and now look set to make a surprise signing for a new talent.

Ronaldinho’s son set to join Hull City

As per Hull Live, the Tigers are set to announce the signing of Ronaldinho’s son, Joao Mendes.

He will link up with the club’s academy side and is signing from Burnley, where he spent one season there following his departure from Barcelona.

Mendes traditionally plays as a left winger and has previously played in his native Brazil for Cruzeiro before moving to the infamous La Masia academy.

Ronaldinho’s son was glad to leave Barcelona

Being the son of football’s great players is a different kind of pressure.

Throw in playing for Barcelona too, and the pressure cooker goes up an extra notch.

For Mendes, that was a lot to deal with as a youngster and in February 2025, admitted that leaving the Catalan giants was the right call.

He told ESPN Brazil: “My father was one of the best, if not the best, to ever play the game. So being his son, being able to talk about him, is a source of pride. And I try to do my own thing, I try not to put my father in the middle of things, I try to play my football my way, without pressure”
