Hull City are set to bring in one Sheffield Wednesday player who departed amid their financial issues.
Ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season, Hull City are facing a transfer fee ban, prohibiting them from spending for the next three transfer windows.
Whilst Acun Ilicali is confident that Hull’s ban can be reduced, the Tigers need to prepare for the worst possible outcome, which means a reliance on free agents this season.
However, Hull City are not the only club facing difficulties this summer, with Sheffield Wednesday undergoing a multitude of issues, only to a much greater extent.
Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has significantly depleted the first-team squad in order to generate funds for the short-term running of the football club.
Amid the chaos in S6, Hull City look set to benefit as they move closer to picking up one former Owls star.

Hull City closing in on move for former Sheffield Wednesday star Akin Famewo
After Akin Famewo departed Hillsborough last month, Hull City have decided to swoop in and, per Hull Live, could have him signed by the weekend.
Hull City have sold Sean McLoughlin to Blackburn Rovers, whilst fellow centre-back Alfie Jones is nearing a move to Middlesbrough, and Famewo is likely to be a direct replacement for the pair.
It is expected that Famewo would be a back-up option for the Tigers this season, behind Charlie Hughes, John Egan, and Semi Ajayi in the pecking order.
The 26-year-old has notched vast EFL experience in his career so far, having notably played 76 League One games and made 48 Championship appearances.

Akin Famewo’s spell at Sheffield Wednesday
The centre-back, who can also be slotted in at left-back when needed, endured a Sheffield Wednesday spell with mixed success.
After joining in 2022/23 in the Owls’ promotion-winning League One campaign, Famewo’s first half of his debut season at Hillsborough was plagued with injury before he then became a crucial member of Darren Moore’s defence.
Famewo’s role was more prominent in the 2023/24 season, playing on 35 occasions, but then his injury woes returned for the following campaign.
The former Sheffield Wednesday defender may prove to be a fine addition for Hull City, bringing in EFL experience at no cost. If he can endure a clean season injury-free at the MKM, he could very well be a hit with the Hull supporters.
